US mayors urge plan for Iraq pullout

Mayors across the United States narrowly endorsed a resolution calling for President George W. Bush's administration to begin planning for the ''swift and prudent'' withdrawal of troops from Iraq after a chaotic debate that echoed political divisions across the country.

Mayor Dannel Malloy of Stamford, Connecticut, said the Iraq war was draining money from classrooms and municipal services across the US and local governments have ''gotten to the boiling point.'' ''It's time to begin developing a plan to bring the troops home,'' Malloy said, ''many people see this as a very important moment in our history.''  (AP)
