4 killed as car overturns near Lake Kinneret

Passengers crushed as their car hits sewage pipe, turns over on Highway 90; police estimate driver was speeding

Four Arab-Israeli residents of Nazareth, two men and two women, were killed Thursday afternoon when their car overturned on Route 90, near Kibbutz Ginosar on the shore of Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).

Police estimate that the driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle before hitting a sewage pipe, causing the vehicle to turn over and crush the passengers.

"It was a terrible sight," Magen David Adom official Eli Peretz told Ynet. "Four people in their 60s were lying on the ground lifeless. All we could do was pronounce their death.

So far five people have been killed in accidents over the Rosh Hashana holiday.

Earlier on Tuesday 17-year-old Katya Mutznik of Yeruham was killed when the vehicle she was traveling in overturned near the Negev Junction in the south. Four other people, including Katya's sister, sustained mild injuries.

An initial investigation revealed that the youngsters were apparently under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
