Israel Electric Corp. to build power plant in Greece

Company to supply Greek isle with 420 megawatts of electricity; deal estimated at $2.5 mln

Israel Electric Corp. (EIC) has won a tender to design an construct a power plant in Greece, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday.

The company recently struck a deal worth $2.5 million deal with Greek company METKA to build the plant, which will run on natural gas and supply 420 megawatts of electricity to one of the Greek isles.

EIC, which beat out several other international firms for the project in Greece, has been looking to expand its activity abroad for several years now in an effort to brush aside calls for large-scale cut backs in the company's planning divisions.

EIC officials said METKA is a leading private company that operates in Greece and abroad.
