Hailstorm sets off cluster bomb explosions in south Lebanon

After a long dry spell across Lebanon, hailstones as big as walnuts hit a number of villages in the south of the country, striking undiscovered bomblets and causing a string of blasts, the state-run National News Agency reported.

No injuries were reported in the explosions. Dalya Farran, a spokeswoman for the United Nations Mine Action Coordination Center (MACC), confirmed that ''many cluster bombs'' exploded Tuesday when they were hit by hailstones in villages near the town of Marjayoun. (Reuters)
