Qassam attacks continue as security cabinet convenes

Three rockets fired from north Gaza land in open fields, no injures reported. Security officials present cabinet with various alternatives to broad ground incursion

Three Qassams fired from north Gaza on Wednesday landed in open fields south of Ashkelon and within the Sdot Negev Regional Council. No injuries or damage were reported.

Overnight the Israeli Air Force attacked rocket launchers in the Strip and identified a hit, the IDF Spokesperson's Office reported.

Meanwhile, the national security cabinet convened to discuss Israel's strategy in the face of the escalation in the south. It is estimated that the ministers will not decide to launch a wide-scale operation in Gaza, as neither the army nor the Shin Bet internal security service have recommended such a move.

During the meeting, security establishment officials were expected to present various alternatives to a broad ground incursion.

Kadima member David Tal, chairman of the Knesset's House Committee, slammed the government for what he said was its discrimination against residents of Sderot.

"There cannot be a situation whereby the State is willing to accept rocket fire on Sderot and only take action when Ashkelon is attacked," he said.
