Al Jazeera's English-language coverage of the Myanmar crackdown and a current affairs program have earned the network its first International Emmy news nominations.

Besides Al Jazeera English, the Qatar-based satellite news channel, nominated networks include the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., TV Globo in Brazil, Pro TV News in Romania, ITV News in the United Kingdom and SBS Broadcasting in the Netherlands.

Al Jazeera and TV Globo were the only two to receive nominations in both the news and current affairs categories. TV Globo received nominations last year in both categories as well.

Al Jazeera English's "Kuala Lumpur News Hour" received the nomination for coverage of the military crackdown in Myanmar. In the current affairs category, Al Jazeera was nominated for the program, "Witness: Red Mosque."

For the first time, the international news categories will be unveiled with their US colleagues at the News & Documentary Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 22 in New York.
