3 MKs threatening break from new rightist party

Yitzhak Levy, Uri Ariel and Zvi Hendel demand primary elections to determine Jewish Home's roster ahead of general elections; public council insists leaving issue to online vote

Three members of the newly formed right-wing 'Jewish Home' party threatened to leave it Monday, unless primaries were held to determine the party list.

Members of the party's public council have decided not to hold primary elections to determine its roster ahead of the February 10 general elections, and instead leave it to the general public to do so by way of an online vote.

"This is a serious problem for us," said Knesset member Yitzhak Levy, speaking also for MK Uri Ariel and MK Zvi Hendel. "Of course we won't do anything drastic as long as dialogue continues."

Levy said he was considering reestablishing the National Union Party along with MK Arieh Eldad, who currently heads the Hatikva Party.

"If the council refuses to change its stance according to our demands, I believe it will result in a split in the national home," he said.

Sources within Jewish Home said it was possible that the three MKs were trying to stir controversy to secure their spot on the party's roster.
