Despite the global economic crisis and difficult financial situation, many Israelis will still be sending Christmas and New Years' gifts to their friends and colleagues overseas this December.

Every year, thousands of kilograms of wines, chocolates, citrus fruits, and an array of Israeli products are gifted to overseas recipients, and despite the current financial crisis, a rise in the amount of packages sent abroad this time of year is expected.

Different postal and delivery companies working in Israel have provided a similar explanation to the increase in gifts sent.

Avi Hochman, CEO of the Israel Postal Company, explained that despite the situation, "many companies feel and understand the importance of maintaining and strengthening personal and business ties, and of course the need to honor their colleagues' and clients' holiday traditions around the world."

According to Hochman, the most popular package destinations were the United States, Europe and the Far East.

Hochman said most of the senders were hi-tech companies, communications companies, banks, and companies offering made-in-Israel products.

Citrus fruits, chocolates, books, home and office products, Judaica products and beauty products are among the most popular gifts.

Marketing Director of UPS Israel Ronen Cohen also predicted that this year, more Israeli companies will chose to send gifts ahead of the Christian holidays, in order to strengthen business ties.

"The amount of deliveries the company deals with in Israel and throughout the world in this season grows every year, and we predict that this year it will also grow," said Cohen.
