Extremists' wives detained after protest

Right-wing activists demonstrate outside homes of IDF commanders, state officials who they blame for 'Hebron expulsion.' Ayala Ben-Gvir, Elisheva Federman held for questioning, along with several other protestors

Right-wing activists demonstrated on Monday outside the homes of several senior Israel Defense Forces officers and state officials in protest of the evacuation of the disputed house in Hebron last week.

Activists reported that Ayala Ben-Gvir, the wife of extreme rightist Itamar Ben-Gvir, was held for questioning along with four other women near the home of Central Command chief Major-General Gadi Shamni in Modiin.

Elisheva Federman, the wife of activist Noam Federman, has been detained in Tel Aviv while protesting in front of the house of Brigadier-General Noam Tibon, commander of the Judea and Samaria Division.

Demonstrations were also held opposite the houses of Deputy State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan and the head of the Shin Bet's Jewish Department.

According to the activists, the purpose of the protest was to illustrate to "the leaders of the expulsion and harassment in Hebron" that "they are not immune" and that their homes could be reached as well.

The IDF's Spokesperson's Unit said in response: "We regret the fact that a handful of civilians harass the families of senior IDF officers who are working tirelessly for Israel's' security and the safety of its citizens.

"This is inappropriate behavior, and we are certain that the Israel Police and the law enforcing authorities would address it in the correct manner."

The statement further said that the demonstrations "will not deter the IDF and its commanders from enforcing law and order in Judea and Samaria as long as this is required."
