Abutbul son-in-law killed in underworld assassination

Police confirm 27-year-old Nati Ohayon, who recently married crime boss' daughter, shot to death by two anonymous gunmen in Netanya on Monday evening, manhunt underway for perpetrators

Once again the criminal underworld has seized the streets of Netanya as two unknown assailants shot and killed 27-year-old Nati Ohayon on Monday evening near a local school named after late President Moshe Sharet.

Ohayon was known to the police, and last month wed Shirley, sister to Asi and Francois Abutbul of the notorious crime family. The victim was sitting in his car at the time of his death, and was shot at an exceptionally close range.

The gunmen fled the scene, and Magen David Adom paramedics alerted to the scene had little more to do but declare the young man dead.

The initial inquiry determined the victim had come to visit a third party, also a known criminal. The sound of gunshots drew a large crowd, including family members of the friend the victim had come to visit. Large police forces swarmed to the scene and cordoned off the area. An investigation into the shooting has been launched.

According to police officials, the victim was not known to be a member of organized crime at the time of his death, despite the connection to the Abutbul family. The current estimate is that he had been trying to

set up a criminal network of his own.

The victim was arrested and convicted on murder charges several years ago, and police described him as "a particularly cruel" man.

The victim's friend was released from prison last month, having served time after police found a LAW missile in his vehicle on the beach, which was allegedly intended for use by Asi Abutbul. The friend's father was murdered in the 1990s.
