Attorneys Ronit Amiel and Nisim Marom, who have been heading the case on behalf of the State Prosecutor's Office's team, have said before that the case is complex and that it suffers from some essential evidentiary difficulties, but have not categorically recommended it be closed.

Mazuz and State Prosecutor Moshe Lador are both adamant to proceed in the case and file criminal charges against the former president. Lador himself, however, said that the case is "problematic."

Sources in the State Prosecutor's Office said that his case, like many other sexual crime cases, boils down to a "he said/she said" situation and that it was up to the court to decide which version of the events it finds credible.

Katsav was supposed to sign a plea bargain in the case in April, but decided to renege on it in the last minute. The State than pulled the original indictment, criticized by many as being to lenient, and has been working on an emended one since.
