2 more indictments filed in IDF credit card theft affair

Tel Aviv, Qalansuwa residents charged with weapons trade, credit card fraud, attempted robbery in affair of Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi's stolen credit card information

Two more indictments were filed in the IDF credit card theft affair that broke in a Ynet story, in which a solider allegedly stole Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi's credit car information and transferred it to a third party. Parts of the affair are still under gag order.

Twenty-two-year-old Tel Aviv resident Hamoudi Majadleh was charged with weapons trade, attempted robbery under aggravated circumstances, credit card fraud, fraudulently obtaining funds and disrupting the investigation process.

Twenty-year-old Sadir Nashef of Qalansuwa, was charged with weapons trade and attempted weapons trade.

Majadleh worked with the suspect, whose details are still under gag order, in a butcher's shop in Raanana before the soldier began his military service, and persuaded him to sell him a weapon.

The soldier allegedly found the chief of staff's credit card information while in his office, and transferred it to other colleagues who racked up a bill of about NIS 2000 (about $525) at Ashkenazi's expense.

He also allegedly stole a collector's item gun from the office and sold it to Majadleh for NIS 4,000 (about $1,000). According to the indictment, Majadleh then transferred the gun to Nashef, who was furious to learn it was not usable.

The two demanded their money back from the soldier, who decided to close his debt by entering the Kirya army base in Tel Aviv along with his brother, clogging a guard over the head with a brick, and stealing his M-16 rifle.

The suspected soldier's remand was extended by five days on Tuesday, and his lawyer, Idan Pesach, said in response, "The materials we received only reinforce claims that pressures were put on my client for an extended period of time until he ultimately snapped."
