A state comptroller report published Wednesday has found excessive expenses and faulty bookkeeping among one-third of the candidates in the Knesset primary elections.
Hinting towards Knesset Member Haim Katz (Likud), who according to media reports organized rides from factories of the Israel Aerospace Industries to voting stations in the Likud primaries, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss says, "My office received information revealing that one of the candidates, with a high position in a body subject to the state comptroller's inspection, operated during the primary elections day a wide-scale lineup of organized transportation using buses, from the inspected body's gates to the voting stations.
"Taking advantage of the resources of inspected bodies, in an unfair and illegal manner, in order to promote the business of candidates with connections, status or an influence among bodies subject to the state comptroller's inspection, is extremely severe."
He adds, "The attorney general should also examine this matter."
Other MKs who, according to the comptroller, spent excessive sums of money during the primaries include: Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon (Likud), MK Yoel Hasson (Kadima), MK Daniel Ben-Simon (Labor), and MK Arieh Eldad (National Union).
