Shalit campaign 'concerned by media reports'

Campaign leader: I'm certain that Netanyahu will find courage to bring Shalit home soon

The Shalit campaign leader says he is concerned by media reports about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's hesitation to finalize the swap deal for the captive IDF soldier.

"I admit that we're concerned in the face of the recent reports," Shimshon Libman said Saturday. "We maintain regular contact with the Prime Minister's Office, and we are certain that Netanyahu will show leadership and courage and bring Gilad back home soon."

"We hear all the time about values such us the need not to abandon captive soldiers and the repeat of the Ron Arad tragedy," Libman said. "We won't let that happen."

On Friday, the Fox News network reported that Israel has been holding back its answer to the German mediator's latest Shalit deal proposal for three weeks now, because of Netanyahu's hesitation.

According to the report, members of Israel's top ministerial forum of seven are divided on some aspects of the deal and its future implications.

Earlier, Arabic London-based newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi repotted that Israel is supposed to provide its response to Hamas' demands by Sunday.
