Nachman Inshin, who was recently charged with murdering his infant daughter Fruma, was not responsible for his actions, according to a psychiatric evaluation submitted to the Jerusalem District Court on Thursday.
Due to the evaluation, Inshin's attorney, Avi Lavi, is expected to demand that all legal proceedings against his client be suspended so that he may continue receiving psychiatric treatment.
A previous psychiatric evaluation of Inshin, which was commissioned by the police, determined that the Jerusalem resident was fit to stand trial.
The latest evaluation said Inshin was in a psychotic state when he bashed his daughter against the floor of their apartment. According to the district psychiatrist, Inshin's judgment was impaired to the point where he was unable to comprehend the severity of his actions or tell right from wrong.
During Thursday's hearing, the court ruled that Inshin will remain in custody at a psychiatric hospital until the legal proceedings against him conclude.
Attorney Lavi said after the hearing, "The psychiatric evaluation speaks for itself. (Inshin) is a mentally ill person who was having a psychotic episode and did not understand what he was doing. This is a tragic case, but the man needs care."
