A police operation against car theft and forgeries uncovered a lab in the West Bank town of Yatta, near Hebron, where documents and license plates were forged for stolen Israeli vehicles.

An investigation revealed that license plates, identity cards, driver's licenses, and vehicles' registrations were systematically forged in the lab.

Police seized computers, license plates, counterfeit documents and raw materials used in the forgeries, as well as 36 stolen vehicles.

The main suspect in the affair is 45-year-old Yousef Nuga'a, whose house contained the lab. The suspect was taken in for questioning at the Etgar police unit.

At the end of his interrogation, a serious indictment was filed against him with eight counts, including forging documents, changing the identity of a vehicle and receiving stolen vehicles. His remand was extended.

Police said the operation that took place south of Hebron uncovered an industry of forgeries and the use of hundreds of stolen and counterfeit vehicles, that continue to travel through Israel's roads uninterrupted.
