Report: Israeli lightly hurt in Moscow attacks

Israeli-Russian website says David Ben-David sustained mild shrapnel wounds to his leg during Monday's metro attacks. Putin: Masterminds of bombings must be 'dragged out of the sewer'

The Israel-based Russian-language website Newsro reported Tuesday that 26-year-old Israeli national David Ben-David was among those injured during the attacks on two metro stations in central Moscow Monday.

The report said that Ben-David, who is studying medicine in Moscow, sustained light shrapnel injuries to his leg and was admitted to the trauma ward at the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy. The head of the trauma ward said Ben-David is in good condition.

A Newsro reporter said that to his knowledge no other Israelis were injured in the attacks.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that the masterminds of the Moscow subway bombings must be "dragged out of the sewer" and that catching them is, if nothing else, a matter of pride for investigators.

Putin, who is thought to carry the most power in Russia, said on television Tuesday that he is sure the organizers of Monday's attacks, which killed 39 people, would be found.

Putin said, "We know that they are lying low, but it is already a matter of the pride of law enforcement agencies to drag them out of the sewer and into broad daylight."

Officials allege the masterminds are in the country's restive North Caucasus region.

Five victims remain in critical condition and more than 70 are still hospitalized after the twin suicide bombings.
