After reaching the hospital the man's condition began to deteriorate and he underwent surgery. Hospital sources say he is in moderate and stable condition.
Residents of nearby community Yitzhar told Ynet that since the Hawara checkpoint opened for Arab traffic from Nablus the road had become congested. "The terrorists used the gridlock along the road and at a certain point threw rocks and stones from two directions at the car," one resident said.

Shomron Regional Council head Gershon Mesika commented, "The Arabs recognize the weakness we project as a society. It is unacceptable that Jews are being injured in the same spot over and over again.
"Stones can kill and the defense establishment must act with severity against this terrorism."
Last week two Israelis driving on the Hawara road were also pelted with stones and sustained light injuries. In response they stepped out of their vehicles and shot at the aggressors. No injuries were reported among the Palestinians.
Terrorist attack attempts in the West Bank and Jerusalem area have recently increased. According to a Shin Bet report issued Thursday a total of 89 attacks were recorded in the area: Three using explosives, five shooting incidents, two stone throwing attacks and 79 incidents of Molotov cocktail hurling.
