Mortar shell found in Tel Aviv bus station

Bomb discovered in plastic bag on Dizengoff Street. Explosive removed by sappers; probe launched

An old mortar shell was found Sunday at a bus station on Tel Aviv's Dizengoff Street. The bomb was found inside a plastic bag in a station located near the Dizengoff Center shopping mall.

Police sappers detonated the explosive in a controlled manner and removed it from the scene. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

Police investigators believe that a person forgot the bomb and are searching for him. They have yet to rule out that the incident was criminally or nationalistically motivated.

In May, Dizengoff Street was closed off to traffic after passersby reported seeing an Arab man and woman shouting, "Itbah Al-Yahud" (slaughter the Jews). Hundreds of police officers searched for the two suspects, who were never found. The road was opened to traffic several hours later.
