Iran: Footballer's girlfriend executed

The girlfriend of an Iranian footballer, who was convicted of killing the player's first wife, was hanged in Iran on Wednesday, his lawyer told IRNA. International had called on Iran to suspend the execution, stating: "there are good reasons to think Jahed may have been wrongly convicted."

The hanging brings the number of people executed in Iran since the beginning of the year to at least 146 .(AFP)
