MK Sheetrit: I worked to establish national firefighting service
MK Meir Sheetrit (Kadima) who served as interior minister in the previous government said following the release of the State Comptroller's report into Israel's fire services Wednesday that he worked to make the fire services a national authority.
"I led all the preparations for the preparation of a government bill to turn the fire services into a national authority and take it out of local authority jurisdiction", said Sheetrit. He states that before we could follow through with the bill, the Knesset dispersed and I was forced to transfer the issue to the current minister Eli Yishai". Sheetrit also claimed that "I was the first interior minister that took the issue seriously and tried to solve the problems". (Roni Sofer)
