PM's letter to Obama: Pollard paid heavy price, consider pardon
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu read the letter he had sent to United States President Barack Obama asking him to pardon Jonathan Pollard, at a Knesset plenum discussion on Tuesday.
Netanyahu said that even though Israel has not aimed its intelligence efforts against the US, it did operate wrongfully. He added that both Pollard and Israel have expressed regret and mentioned that Pollard had been in prison longer than anyone who has been accused of a similar act. The PM said Pollard has paid a heavy price for his actions and his health is deteriorating. Netanyahu went on to request Obama to consider pardoning Pollard. (Roni Sofer)
