IDF arrests former Hamas minister near Nablus

Former Palestinian Finance Minister Dr. Omar Abdel Razek detained in his home in Salfit for suspected involvement in terrorist activity

An IDF force arrested Palestinian parliament member and former Finance Minister Dr. Omar Abdel Razek Monday night. Army sources said he is being questioned for suspicion of involvement in terrorist activity.

A Palestinian TV network reported that Abdel Razek, who served as finance minister in the Hamas government, has been arrested in his home in Salfit, near Nablus.

According to the report, an IDF force broke into his house Monday night, conducted a search and later detained Abdel Razek. Several computers were confiscated.

Hamas parliament member Muna Mansur, who provided the report, expressed concern that Israel will arrest parliament members on behalf of Hamas.

In June 2006, Abdel Razek was arrested together with other Hamas senior officials following the abduction of Gilad Shalit, which ended his stint as finance minister.
