Teen's burnt body found in Rahat

Police estimate 16-year-old boy discovered beneath burning tire in Bedouin town was murdered. Relative: Sheer cruelty

The badly-burnt body of a 16-year-old boy was found in a grove in the southern Bedouin town of Rahat overnight Friday. Police estimate the boy was murdered. The boy's relatives told Ynet his body was found beneath a burning tire.

One of the boy's relatives said he believed the murderers kidnapped the boy to the grove, brutally beat him and then set him on fire. "I don't understand how anyone could do this. It's sheer cruelty," he said.

Other relatives, all members of the Abu Siam family, described the boy as gifted. "The only places he frequented were the mosque, school and gym," one of them said.

Police arrested a distant female relative of the boy on suspicion of involvement in is murder. Investigators suspect the incident was part of a long-running dispute within the Abu Siam clan.

Two weeks ago, a 19-year-old pregnant woman was shot and killed in Rahat, in what investigators suspected was the result of a dispute between the woman and her mother in law. The murdered woman was also a member of the Abu Siam family.

The mother in law was seriously wounded after trying to take her own life.

"The Abu Siam family is a well-known and good family," a Rahat resident told Ynet. "We are shocked that in such a normative family such terrible incidents can occur, one after the other."
