A woman in her 40s from central Israel was arrested on suspicion of trying to sell her baby boy for a few hundred shekels, Ynet learned on Monday.
The infant, who was born just a few months ago, was transferred to the care of welfare services.
On Monday Border Guard officers tracked the woman down and arrested her after receiving information according to which she was having a hard time raising her child on her own and was in desperate need of money.
Police said the woman, an apparent drug user, will not likely be prosecuted because her plan to sell the baby fell through.
Her case will also be handled by welfare services, police officials said.
