US warns it may stop UNESCO funding
The United States warned Monday that by UNESCO granting the Palestinian Authority full membership, while bypassing the peace process, they are risking significant US cuts in funding, which makes up for 22% of the organization's budget.
"We believe this application is premature, distracts us from our shared goal of direct negotiations that result in a secure Israel and an independent Palestine living peacefully side by side, and could force significant cuts to UNESCO's budget," Washington said. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
