IDF source: Soldiers opened fire because they feared for their lives

An initial investigation into the shooting incident at Har Hebron revealed that the IDF troops were dispatched to a makeshift checkpoint on Route 60 after an Israeli vehicle was witnessed driving in a suspicious manner. An IDF official said that the soldiers noticed the car rapidly heading in their direction.

"They feared for their lives and so acted according to procedure and opened fire at the vehicle," the IDF clarified. A resident of Otniel was killed and three passengers were wounded in mild and moderate condition. A soldier sustained mild injuries when a passing truck hit him. (Yair Altman)
