Abbas appoints Shait deal prisoner to public position

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has appointed General Mahmoud Damra, recently released by Israel at part of the Gilad Shalit swap deal, to be the president's advisor on district affairs.

Damara, former commander of Force 17 in Yasser Arafat's regime, was arrested by Israel in 2006 for his involvement against IDF forces. He was on the State's most-wanted list of terrorists. (Elior Levy)
