Former President Moshe Katsav's Attorney Zion Amir filed an emergency motion for a 60-day continuance in submitting a petition for an additional hearing on his appeal, Ynet learned Thursday. This, despite the fact that several of Katsav's lawyers advised him against the move.
Amir argued in the motion that a two-month continuance would be in place in light of the scope of the verdict, the nature of the questions it touches upon and the need to prepare a detailed petition.

Katsav was given a January 8 deadline to file for an additional hearing. A request of this nature is usually filed in relation to a legal question which warrants further clarification. It is possible that Katsav's attorneys will seek further discussion on the question of alibi or consensual sex.
Last week, another one of Katsav's lawyers, Attorney Avigdor Feldman, said that the former president is not likely to file for an additional hearing. This prompted angry reactions by the Katsav family which is likely to drop Feldman as an attorney.
Attorney Amir noted in the motion that the defense team is considering reorganizing itself.
