Coming home? Toker

India: Israeli suspected of arms charge heading home?

Judge slams police for prolonging probe against Nurit Toker, 23, who was arrested after bullets discovered in her luggage. 'Prove intent or close case,' he tells investigators

The Mumbai Supreme Court on Friday criticized the local police for dragging its feet in the investigation of an Israeli woman detained in India after airport security officers discovered bullets in her luggage.

In October 2011, the Indian media reported that the Mumbai police arrested Nurit Toker, 23, and later released her on bail, but prohibited her from leaving the country pending completion of the investigation.

During a court hearing, the judge stated that unless it is proven that Toker knowingly carried the ammunition in her luggage, he will have to end all legal proceedings and allow Toker to fly home.

According to India Express newspaper, the judge slammed police representatives during the hearing, saying: "The possession of ammunition in and of itself is not enough, is it considered an offense?"

Toker, a former IDF officer, was arrested during a security check before boarding a flight to Katmandu.

Upon her arrest, Toker told investigators that she had kept the bullets as a souvenir from her military service, and forgot they were in her bag.

Toker's attorney stated during the court hearing that the bullets weren’t detected when she boarded a flight from Israel on October 26, or when she landed in Mumbai.

The next court hearing was scheduled for January 17th.
