Committee recommends approving surrogacy for same sex couples

A public committee established to examine the legislative aspects of fertility treatments has recommended that the Health Ministry expand the eligibility for surrogacy services to include single women with medical problems and single men based on an altruistic donation with no monetary compensation to the surrogate.

The committee did not discuss the personal status of those requesting the service, leaving the decision in the hands of the authorities. Thus, if the recommendations are adopted, homosexual couples will be able to use surrogacy services in Israel. (Karmit Reuven)
