Syria's al-Moallem: Israel must join NPT

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said at the UN's General Assembly on Monday that Damascus is renewing its call for the international community to work towards disarming the Middle East of WMDs.

He said this could not be achieved without compelling Israel to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty and allow IAEA inspection of its nuclear facility. He also blamed Israel for the failure of efforts to bring peace to the Middle East pointing out Israel's "insistence" to pursue the "settlement policy." (Ynet)
