Francois Hollande to Abbas: Escalation must stop

Reims - French President François Hollande has expressed "concern" at Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas about the situation in Gaza, saying that "the escalation must stop" between Israelis and Palestinians, a statement from the presidency said.

In a telephone interview, the head of state has commended Abbas for his "sense of responsibility" and his efforts to "ease the tension".
