IDF soldier killed when jeep overturns in West Bank

Soldier named as Sergeant First Class Yasser Juanis, 42, from Zarzir in northern Israel.

An IDF soldier has been killed in a car accident between the West Bank settlements of Kedumim and Shavei Shomron, the IDF released for publication Friday.

The soldier was named as Sergeant First Class Yasser Juanis, 42, from the town of Zarzir in northern Israel, some 10 kilometers from Nazareth. He was to be laid to rest on Friday evening at the cemetery in his home town.

Juanis was killed when his military jeep flipped over, injuring two other soldiers - one seriously and the other lightly. The two wounded soldiers were evacuated to Beilinson Medical Center in Petah Tikva.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. An initial investigation showed that the jeep overturned as it was driving along a side road that was in poor condition. The jeep was carrying IDF scouts who had been conducting an inspection of a suspicious item, which ultimately turned out to be a dummy device.
