Family of Australian 'Ginger Jihadist' teen call him ‘stupid’
'He's brainwashed,' says family of Australian teen known as 'Ginger Jihadist' who made Islamic State propaganda video, threatened revenge against world leaders for airstrikes.
The family of seventeen year-old Abdullah Elmir of Sydney, also known as the “Ginger Jihadist,” slammed their relative as "stupid" after he uploaded a pro-Islamic State propaganda video in which he made threats against Australia, America and Britain and vowed to take revenge against world leaders over airstrikes on the group's militants in Syria and Iraq.
“To Obama, to Tony Abbot, I say this: These weapons that we have, these soldiers we will not stop fighting, we will not put down our weapons until we reach your lands,” he said.
The United States and other Western countries have repeatedly bombed the the jihadist group's positions in Iraq - including in the Fallujah area on Wednesday - and Gulf monarchies have also taken part in air strikes against it in Syria which began last month.
Elmir’s relative, who did not want to be named, said to the Daily Telegraph, “What a stupid idiot. We never associated with him. That guy was brainwashed, I don’t know what these kids get into.”
Elmir left his hometown of Bankstown in June, telling his parents he had gone fishing. His parents have not heard from him since and believe Elmir was brainwashed to join the group.
