Arab world's beloved singer Sabah dies at 87

Lebanon's official news agency says beloved Lebanese singer and entertainer Sabah has died at the age of 87.

 

The singer, whose real name is Jeanette Feghali, was famous across the Arab world for her powerful voice, musical talent and joyful brazenness. The National News Agency says she died early Wednesday in Beirut.

 

She first came to prominence in the fifties as a singer and actress in Egyptian movies. She was nicknamed "shahroura," Arabic for "singing bird" and "the Sabbouha," a diminutive for "Sabah" by millions of fans across the Middle East.
