Diskin: 'Anyone but Bibi, or Bennett, or Lieberman'

Former Shin Bet chief urges center-left parties to unite towards putting country on new path, says elections will be 'for the return of sanity'.

Former Shin Bet Director Yuval Diskin may have decided not to run in upcoming elections, but he certainly intends to join attempts to topple Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

In a post on his Facebook page, Diskin rejected the "anyone but Bibi" rallying cry espoused by some politicians.

"The elections that will apparently take place on March 17 are not 'anyone but Bibi' elections," he wrote. "The situation is so sensitive and the timing so crticial, that I find it almost insulting to label them 'anyone but Bibi'.

"Because these elections are also 'anyone but Bennett', who leads Bibi along, as well as 'anyone but Lieberman', who does not impress me with his supposedly moderate conflicting messages.

"These are elections on the path Israel will take in this delicate time. It's important to remember that. I can understand the frustration towards Bibi's spinelessness, Bennett's immaturity, and Lieberman's cynicism.

"But friends, between us - Bibi, Bennett, and LIberman are just an unsuccessful showcase of the real problem, which is the path towards which they are dragging all of us, sometimes knowingly and sometimes out of detachment and weakness," Diskin wrote.

"This is a religious-nationalist path, useless and rich in belligerent rhetoric, which spends most of its time instilling fear rather than creating hope. It's leading us steadily towards a binational state, to a society in which racism spreads at an alarming rate, in which anyone who isn't a Jew, is not a patriot and is not a Zionist.

"It's a path that benefits the rich while having no compassion for the weak, and especially for two million poor people, mostly haredi and Arab, including 800,000 children."

Diskin added that this path "has since 2011 systematically dissolved the social justice protest movement of an entire generation of young people.

"These are elections for the return of sanity and especially for the path that will focus on creating a better future for our children."

Diskin called for the public to demand that center-left politicians to leave their egos behind and "unite towards the goal of putting us on that path." He further said that politicians who refused to cooperate should be punished at the ballot box.
