Israeli killed, 5 injured in New Zealand after car falls down ravine

Rented van carrying three Israeli couples in their 60s and 70s veers off road for unknown reason, plunges down 40-meter ravine in Christchurch; 1 of the wounded in severe condition.

An Israeli woman was killed and five other Israelis were severely and moderately injured on Saturday when the car they were travelling in plunged down a ravine in Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. Among the injured, one is listed in severe condition. The Foreign Ministry notified the families of the victims.

 

 

According to reports in New Zealand, three Israeli couples between the ages of 60 and 70 were driving a rental car when for an unknown reason their vehicle ran off the road and fell into a 40-meter deep ravine. Rescue teams arrived at the scene and evacuated the wounded by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.

The three men who were in the car managed to escape, and one of them called for help. Rescue forces were able to extricate three of the trapped women, one of whom was dead. One of the injured is in serious condition, and the others are in moderate to severe condition.

The accident occurred at around 10:20 am local time. The cause of the crash is currently unclear. Police are waiting for the victims to recover so that they can ask them for more details about the accident.
