A recent hack into the website Ashley Madison, meant to connect between married men and women hoping to cheat on their spouses, publically revealed the names of tens of thousands of government and military officials from around the world and Israel didn't escape the chopping block.
Just hours after hackers released the personal information of Ashley Madison's users, it was discovered that an unidentified Israeli MK was included on the list.
"I have no connection to this issue," said the MK who claimed that "someone added my email to damage my good name."
The Israeli official added that official complaints had been filed with police and against the website, demanding that Ashley Madison reveal information regarding who may have added the email to the list.
The website doesn't confirm the email addresses of its regular members, making it difficult to affirm the identity of any of the users revealed on the list. But the site is said to have 170,000 Israeli users and it's unclear how many of them may have been included on the leaked list.
Beyond emails, hackers released the usernames and credit card numbers used by Ashley Madison's members.
The Israeli MK was said to be just one of 15,000 users revealed with an email ending in .gov or .mil, pointing to governmental authorities or military personnel.
Ashley Madison Israel refused to comment on the hack, but the company told Reuters that it was unclear if the leaked information was authentic.
