World leaders gather on Monday to kick off the 70th meeting of the UN's General Assembly in New York.

World leaders gathered on Monday to kick off the 70th meeting of the UN's General Assembly in New York.

 

 

US President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak second followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin will be the first head of state to attend a GA meeting in the last 10 years.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff led the way, speaking first in a long line of leaders. In her remarks Rousseff proclaimed that the world cannot postpone the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Nor could the international community tolerate expansion of settlements. The Brazilian leader went on to decry the violent crimes perpetrated by ISIS. She was followed by Obama soon there after.
