Police are monitoring online threats.
Police arrested two 18-year-old high school students in Tirat HaCarmel on Sunday, after the pair sent WhatsApp messages discussing their intention to harm Arabs who come close to their school. They even equipped themselves with knives.
Interim commander of the city’s police, Chief Superintendent Boaz Samocha, said he sees cases in which civilians, in this case teenagers, choose to break the law and harm others because of their ethnicity or religion. “We know how to track down anyone who plans on interrupting the coexistence and chooses to solve this in a violent way instead of in legitimate, democratic ways, and we will work to bring them to justice,” he said.
Sources in Tirat HaCarmel say that the two wrote of their intentions after they saw Arab construction workers whistling at female students near their school and allegedly harassing them. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
