Cristiano Ronaldo and Ahmed Dawabsheh
Real Madrid soccer club has invited Ahmed Dawabsheh, the sole survivor of an arson attack on his family home in Duma that killed his parents and baby brother, for a special visit to Spain.
The invitation, which was announced by club spokesperson Raul Serrano Quevedo, came at the behest of the Palestinian ambassador, who approached Real Madrid with the request.
Dawabsheh, 5, remains hospitalized following the severe burns he sustained in the fire last summer. As such, the date of his visit has not been set, but his family estimates that he will be able to return home within the next three months.
The trip will involve visiting the team and meeting star player Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid has in the past hosted a family of Syrian refugees who entered the public consciousness when a Hungarian photographer tripped up the father. The club has also donated a million Euros to refugees who arrived in Spain.
