Kissinger to speak at Herzliya Conference

Distinguished former American diplomat to deliver the keynote speech of the conference which deals with the main challenges facing Israel.

Henry Kissinger, who for many years has been one of the most powerful and influential people in the US government, will deliver the keynote speech at the 16th annual Herzliya Conference of the Institute for Policy and Strategy (IPS), to be held on June 14-16.

 

 

His speech will deal with the strategic and political issues on the top of the Israeli and world agenda. During the conference, Kissinger will be awarded an honorary degree from the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC).

 

Kissinger, 93, played a key role over the years in the American administration. Among other things, he served as head of the National Security Council and negotiated the ceasefires of the Paris Peace Accords during the Vietman War for which he was awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize.

That same year, then US President Richard Nixon appointed him Secretary of State - a position he held until 1977. After the Yom Kippur War, Kissinger played a major role in promoting agreements between Israel and its neighbors,continuing his activity for many years. In 2012, then Israeli President Shimon Peres presented Kissinger with the Israeli Presidential Award.

 

Kissinger is still involved in political life in the United States and recently held a conversation with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. He is a highly sought after speaker and continues to speak and promote his ideas worldwide even today.

 

The 2016 Herzliya conference will deal with the main challenges facing Israel and the new national order given regional and internal changes. The conference will also cover economic issues such as Israel's economic challenges, innovation, entrepreneurship and the cyber domain. Senior public, social, economic and business officials will participate in the conference.

 

The Institute for Policy and Strategy at the IDC Herzliya, headed by Prof. Alex Mintz, is considered one of the world's leading institutions regarding risk assessment in the Middle East.

 

The Institute conducts the prestigious Herzliya Conference Series and conducts research, simulations and issues papers dealing with the new Israeli order, updating the appraisal of Israel's security situation.

 

This year's conference manager is former MK Dr. Ronen Hoffman, an expert in conflict management and political negotiations.
