Prosecution appeals Parole Board decision to release Rabbi Pinto early

Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto, who was sentenced to jail for one year after being found guilty of bribing Chief Detective Assistant Commissioner Ephraim Bracha, was due to be released early by the Parole Board on Sunday. Howeve, following the objection of the Prosecution, he will remain for the time being in prison.

Pinto has already served seven months of his sentence and was due to be released early, after agreeing to attend group therapy and adhere to a curfew for the remainder of his sentence and three months past his original release date.

The Prosecution attested that Pinto should not be given an early release date due to the severity of his crime, his perception of it, potential danger in his early release and additional classified information the Prosecution was privy to. It should also be noted that Assistant Commissioner Bracha took his own life after details of the bribery incident began coming to light.
