The heckler, an activist from the environmental organization Green Course who was protesting against the unusual levels of pollution in the Haifa Bay area, was eventually, had to be forecfully escorted out of the ceremony by policemen and security guards.
Many activists from the organization attempted to enter the ceremony but were turned away by the event’s organizers. One of them, however, Michal Shokron, managed to make her way into the ceremony and waited until Netanyahu began to speak before she began her demonstration.
Shokron stood up and began to verbally lash out against him, voicing her objections to the activities in petrochemical plants in the Haifa Bay. She also turned to members of the audience and told them, “they are poisoning you.”
When the security personnel came to remove her, she directed her harangue at Netanyahu himself, accusing him of serving the Ofer Brothers conglomerate, also known as the Israel Corp.
As she was being removed from the ceremony hall, Netanyahu said sarcastically, “I thought that maybe we could have just one night of support.” During his speech however, he made no mention whatsoever of the pollution issue in Haifa Bay.
