Ilai Nir, whose father died trying to save him by holding him as they tumbled over a precipice on Friday, is pronounced dead by his medical team; his organs will be donated, and he is to be buried on Monday along with his father, Omri.

Ilai Nir, the 10-year-old boy who was critically injured when he fell from a cliff at the Tze'elim Stream on Friday, passed away on Sunday at the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva.

His father, Dr. Omri Nir, tried to save him when he held his son to his body as the pair fell, absorbing most of the impact. Omri, a researcher of ethnic groups in the Middle East and the modern history of Lebanon at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was immediately killed. He was married with three children, including Ilai.
