Palestinians prevent IDF from entering Area A without coordination
Two vehicles transporting Paratroopers attempt to enter Jenin for a scheduled patrol, but they arrive at the wrong gate; Palestinian civilians and security forces block them, with the latter pointing their weapons at the soldiers; the Israelis leave and travel to the correct entrance to the city; IDF investigates why they showed up at incorrect entrance.
An IDF force in a military jeep and an armored vehicle tried to enter the West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday afternoon without previous coordinating with Palestinian security forces, who drew their weapons at a road block to prevent the IDF's entering the city.
Jenin is in Area A, which, according to the Oslo accords, falls under Palestinian jurisdiction for both security and civilian matters. All entries by the IDF into Area A must be coordinated with Palestinian security forces.
Footage from the incident
An initial investigation by the IDF into the incident revealed that the convoy of Paratroopers was scheduled to enter Jenin on a patrol, but they arrived at an entry point that had not been coordinated in advance. Several Palestinians who came to block the path.
Palestinian security personnel then arrived who directed their weapons towards the IDF troops while Palestinian civilians tried to enter the vehicles. At this point, the IDF force made a U-turn and travelled to the coordinated point of entry without any casualties or damage sustained. The IDF's decision to retreat is due, according to the army, to the force's commanders' desire to carry out their mission without any friction with the Palestinians. The IDF is investigated why the force tried to enter via the incorrect route.
