The courts ordered the mens’ release “to help calm the flames.” Judge Tzvi Porer noted that while the crimes the two are suspected of committing are extremely serious and that the two must be held in accordance with the law, he released them to house arrest and a NIS 50,000 bail.

The judge noted that “this wasn’t an easy decision on the one hand, but on the other hand, had this case been brought in a vacuum and unrelated to the events (in Umm al-Hiran), these two men would have been released to house arrest anyway.”

Porer also said that due to the fact that Arab MK’s were involved in the protest, he doesn’t want anything he does to seem to have a political motivation.
