Olmert was denied visitations after lashing out at prison guard

The former prime minister, who is currently serving out a prison sentence for a 2014 corruption charge, reportedly came to the defense of another prisoner who was arguing with a guard; after speaking in what was deemed an inappropriate manner, Olmert was denied family visitation for one month.

Former prime minister Ehud Olmert was punished and denied family visits for one month after criticizing the conduct of the Prison system in which he is currently serving time for corruption case. Ynet discovered that the event took place three months ago.

Olmert was called in for a disciplinary hearing over the matter, which took place at Maasiyahu Prison's Ward 10, set up specifically to house him.

The event reportedly took place due to an altercation between a guard and another prisoner serving time in the ward. Olmert came to the prisoner's defense, at which time he also criticized the Prison Service. His statements were found to be inappropriate, and therefore he was temporarily denied family visitation. His attorney visits were not and indeed could not be denied him.

Until the event, Olmert's conduct in prison was considered quite good, as he was not found to be involved in any unusual events and did not stand trial for any other disciplinary affairs.

A source within the Prison Service responded to Olmert's temporary visitation block by saying, "We don't have VIP prisoners here—everyone receives the same treatment."
