IDF officer killed in car crash

Capt. Binyamin Rosenblum, 23, dies in a traffic accident after his vehicle was struck by a bus near Eshkol; incident is one of three traffic fatalities to have occurred within the space of one hour.

The IDF officer killed in a road accident on Highway 232 near the Eshkol Regional Council on Monday has been identified as Capt. Binyamin Rosenblum, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.

 

 

Rosenblum, 23, was from Arad and served as deputy commander of a desert reconnaissance unit. He was posthumously promoted from lieutenant to captain following his death.

Rosenblum's funeral will take place on Tuesday at 6:30pm at Arad's military cemetery.

 

In the accident, a 25-year-old bus driver was lightly injured along with one of the passengers. Both were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva.

According to the National Road Safety Authority, the death toll since the beginning of the year stands at 213, compared with 203 in the same period last year. Since the beginning of July, a total of 17 people have been killed on the roads.

Rosenblum is one of the three victims killed Monday in traffic accidents within the space of an hour.

 

In another accident on Route 70 in the Western Galilee, a 7-year-old boy and his 47-year-old father were killed in a collision between their vehicle and a truck. The two were travelling with another 12-year-old family member who was critically injured.
